Our certified teachers have the ability to customize and adjust curriculum to meet the needs of their students through Open Education Resources (OER).

As a pioneer in OER, and following in the footsteps of Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, we were the first secondary school in the world to create and publicly release its own curriculum as an open educational resource freely available for anyone else to use. Because it is our own content, our teachers have the ability to personalize it to meet students’ needs.

Portrait of a Trailblazer

History

Mountain Heights Academy was founded in 2009 to meet the needs of students and families looking for an alternative to traditional schools. We are accredited through Cognia/AdvancED and are leading the way for digital learning in Utah.

Curriculum

Mountain Heights Academy offers NCAA accredited online courses for all Utah students in grades 7–12. We build our own curriculum from existing open-source content and from materials our teachers create—all aligned to core standards.

We also partner with Utah universities to offer concurrent college credit for eligible high school juniors and seniors. Plus, students have the option to take classes and earn certifications at various technical colleges across the state.

Performance

Mountain Heights Academy is one of the highest-performing online charter schools based on state test scores, graduation rate, and ACT scores. View our School-Reported Indicators Report for additional school performance data.
