A Day in the Life of a Mountain Heights Academy Student

You’re likely familiar with a traditional public school day: six and a half hours of in-person instructive classes, morning to afternoon, Monday through Friday. Mountain Heights Academy, on the other hand, gives you the flexibility to control the time, place and pace of your learning each week, so school fits around your life and interests –not the other way around.

Here is what you can expect during a day in the life of a Mountain Heights student.

Potential Schedules

Similar to a traditional school, students choose their schedule based on state graduation requirements and interests. At Mountain Heights, as a full-time student, you need to choose seven classes each semester; each class is expected to take roughly an hour per day (or less, for elective courses). You can fit these hours of study into your day in whatever order you want, on whatever timeline within the week works best for you. Each course provides sample daily schedules, for students to refer to, that suggest an effective timeline for the course. Whether you spread out your coursework evenly, condense it into longer blocks of time so you have a free day at the end of the week, or anything in between, you create a schedule that works for you.

Daily Tasks

Students attend Mountain Heights by logging on to our campus software to access their courses. Coursework is organized into weekly folders, with all work due on Friday by 6:00pm. Students view videos, read a variety of texts, participate in interactive labs and activities, and attend optional live sessions with other students. If students have questions, they chat with the teacher to set up a time to discuss via video conference.

Students are encouraged to make goals to get their coursework done each week so that they stay on top of their progress. If they begin to fall behind, they can access student success mentors who will help them devise a plan for getting back on track.

Students have many opportunities for face-to-face social activities outside of school. These include course related activities such as collaborative study groups and team projects. Students can also join one of the many clubs at Mountain Heights like chess, STEM, writing, book club, gaming and more. There are many leadership opportunities like joining a national honor society or becoming a class officer. Students also really enjoy being involved in service opportunities and extracurricular activities like prom and a back-to-school carnival.
